The thrilling extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this marks the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.
